In Literacy students will be:
- Practicing joined writing on 18mm dotted thirds.
- Becoming more familiar with touch typing on computers.
- Writing using appositives and quotation marks to punctuate direct speech/dialogue.
- Writing persuasive pieces and upgrading nouns and verbs, using ellipses, and the use adverbs of affirmation within sentences.
- Focusing on, working on the ‘ti,ci & si’ rule, silent letters and the ‘xs’ rule.
- Reading a range of nonfiction and fiction texts, including Indigenous Life Pre- Settlement, English Exploration In Australian Waters and Captain Cooks Voyage, demonstrating their understanding of these text through various comprehension activities.
In Mathematics students will be:
- Finding and comparing the perimeter of shapes by counting squares that they are overlayed on.
- Measuring, comparing, and ordering capacities in mL using a measuring jug.
- Finding the area of rectangles by covering them in square centimetre blocks and counting the grid squares.
- Multiplying 2-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers using a written algorithm.
- Writing fractions and decimals to hundredths for a shaded hundred grid.
- Converting improper fractions to mixed numerals through division and drawings.
- Comparing angles and classifying them as acute, right, obtuse, straight, reflex or revolution.
- Writing survey questions, collecting categorical data and representing the results of their survey using a data table and column graph.
- Describing location and plot locations on maps using legends, a grid reference system, a compass rose and a simple scale.
- Conducting a chance experiment involving the rolling of dice and displaying the results using a table and column graph.
In Inquiry students will be:
- Exploring Indigenous Life Pre-Settlement, Captain Cook’s Voyage, The first Fleet and The Impact of Settlement.
- Learning about the four capabilities of; critical and creative thinking, ethical capabilities, intercultural capabilities and personal and social capabilities.
- Demonstrating their knowledge of topics covered throughout the year to create a presentation to present to their peers.
Wellbeing
In Term 4, students will be learning about Gender Equity and engaging in discussions as well as challenging gender stereotypes using/though books. We will continue to use the Respectful Relationships program to focus on emotional literacy, as mandated by the Department of Education.
Students will also be engaging in Smiling Minds, learning about Optimism by identifying and recognising things that have gone well. They will also learn to understand and cultivate Empathy and learn how it feels to be in someone else’s shoes.
With the new year fast approaching, we will work through what going into year 5 will look like and spend time talking about what to expect and discuss strategies that we can use to help ease our transition into 2025.
