What’s Happening in Grade 2 in Term 4 2024
In Reading and Phonics students will be:
- build their fluency by reading decodable passages connected to the sounds we have learnt.
- develop their abilities to comprehend different types of Fiction and Non-Fiction texts.
- review and read words with the ‘ti’, ‘ci’, and ‘si’ spelling patterns as well as plurals.
- learn how to make a reasonable choice for spelling words that include these sounds by identifying different spelling patterns within the English language.
In Knowledge Units students will:
- Develop their understanding of the human body and how the different systems work.
- Create connections to the real world and what makes an individual healthy or unhealthy.
- Explore and learning about the topic ‘Across the Seas’.
- Use maps to understand the location of different countries and how far they are from Australia.
- Build their vocabulary knowledge on the topics ‘The Human Body’ and ‘Across the Seas’.
- Learn the similarities and differences between various countries.
In Writing students will be:
- Begin to learn the importance of note taking and how this can be used now and in the future.
- Understand how to use sentence stems to complete a sentence.
- Develop the skills to use past and present tense correctly within writing.
- Continue to work on improving their letter formation and structure of sentences to ensure that it is grammatically correct.
In Mathematics students will be:
- Learn about capacity and how to measure, order and compare different containers and discuss which holds the most and least.
- Continue to build students’ knowledge and understanding of fractions and the fraction of a collection.
- Create maps and use location words to understand the position of objects on maps.
- Further develop their strategies connected to addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and they will explore how these can be linked.
In Inquiry students will be:
- Using a play-based approach to show case what they have learnt within the Knowledge units.
Wellbeing
- Engage in lessons looking at Help Seeking strategies and Positive Gender Relations.
- Using Smiling Minds as a tool used alongside the Respectful Relationships program to further develop skills to support their social and emotional wellbeing.
