What’s Happening in Grade 4 in Term 3, 2024
We would like to introduce Ms Jessica Dinsdale to the Grade 4 team. She has currently been working as a Casual Relief Teacher within Westmeadows Primary School. She comes with a wealth of knowledge and the students in 4N are in safe hands. Ms Dinsdale will be working Monday to Thursday and the ever-reliable Mrs. Cuda will be working on Fridays.
An expression of interest will be coming out early this term for Grade 4 camp. Please ensure the note is handed back if you would like to attend. Further details regarding the camp i.e. costings will be on the expression of interest note. We are looking forward to another fantastic term.

In Literacy students will be:
- Continuing to work on homophones, ‘ti ci si’ and the ‘ie’ verses ‘ei’ rule
- Aiming to achieve consistently sized and spaced, fluent joined writing
- Learning to consolidate coordinating and subordinating conjunctions and further explore complex sentences using independent and dependent clauses.
- Using a comma with and in place of conjunctions.
- Editing and revising a piece of writing.
- Reading a range of fiction and non-fiction texts, including Storm Boy, Medieval Europe, and Aboriginal Life Pre-settlement. They will demonstrate their understanding of these text through various comprehension activities.
In Mathematics students will be:
- Adding and subtracting using the jump strategy
- Estimating and rounding numbers to the nearest 10’s, 100’s and 1000’s
- Multiplying and diving numbers by powers of 10
- Converting mixed numerals to improper fractions
- Calculating elapsed time
- Drawing lines of symmetry
- Describing similarities and difference between 2D shapes and 3D objects.
- Representing composite shapes and objects in the environment
In Inquiry students will be:
- Exploring civics and citizenship where we will look at rules verses laws
- Explaining the roles of government and some familiar services provided at each level
- Describing the different cultural, religious and/or social groups to which they and others in the community may belong
Wellbeing
We will be using the Respectful Relationships program to focus on emotional literacy.
Students will engage in lessons looking at:
- understanding, expressing and managing emotions.
- learning about their personal strengths, including participating in cooperative games and setting goals.
- looking at positive coping strategies and learning about understanding strong emotions.
There will be a continued focus on our SWPBS Expectations as outlined in our whole school matrix.
The Grade 4 teachers are looking forward to another busy term ahead.
Home Learning
We will be using the Respectful Relationships program to focus on emotional literacy.
Students will engage in lessons looking at:
- Positive gender relations
- Bully No Way activities
- National Day of Action against bullying and violence
- Smiling minds: empathy and building optimism
- R U OK day
