What’s Happening in Performing Arts in Term 2 2024
FOUNDATION:
In Term 2, the Foundation students will be discovering the key elements of Drama. They will participate in a range of dramatic role plays, looking at a variety of different characters and situations that they are familiar with. Students will learn about using voice, facial expressions, movement and space and the impact this has on an audience. They will use their imaginations to create improvisation plays that they will rehearse and present to their peers. Students will explore feelings through stories and puppetry and translate this to their own dramatic play.
GRADE 1:
In Term 2, the Grade One students will be exploring the key elements of Drama. They will be using role play as well as improvisation to identify the features of dramatic play. Through the use of voice, facial expressions, body movement and space, students will develop their ability to establish roles and situations within Drama. They will rehearse and present a variety of scripted plays as well as their own created improvisations with the inclusion of mime. Using scenes and topics they are familiar with, such as the Zoo or well known stories, students will have the opportunity to respond and relate to Drama, sharing feedback and thoughts.
GRADE 2:
In Term 2, the Grade Two students will be exploring the key elements of Drama. They will be using role play as well as improvisation to identify the features of dramatic play. GRADE 3/4:
In Term Two, Grade three students invented a percussion score, composed pieces of music, looked at tempo and ostinatos in music and learned about the Waltz time signature. They created and performed their own dances using the Waltz time signature. Students did some acting and miming related to nutrition and in Media they cropped photos and assembled a photo essay centred around food.
GRADE 5/6:
In Term 2, the Grade Five and Six students will be exploring different elements of Drama. They will delve into dramatic action and empathy using play building and scripted dramas. With a selected piece of poetry, students will analyse plots, characters, settings and themes. They will use body language and gestures to portray emotions and dramatise scenes. Students will deepen their knowledge of improvisation and role play by using techniques that create mood and atmosphere. They will rehearse and present a variety of play types with a strong focus on smooth transitions between scenes as well as performance style and design elements used to engage the audience. Students will be provided with ample opportunities to seek and provide feedback to their peers.
