What’s Happening in Performing Arts in Term 1 2024
FOUNDATION:
In Term 1, the Foundation students will be exploring the aspects of Music. They will be exposed to known and some new nursery rhymes as well as songs used by cultural groups in the local community to develop their ability to sing in rhythm. Students will use a range of instruments such as egg shakers and rhythm sticks to explore ways of creating and using sound. They will have ample opportunities to rehearse and perform songs to their peers and compose pieces of music using instruments and body percussion.
GRADE 1:
In Term 1, the Grade One students will be exploring the aspects of Music. They will discover their ability to use their voice and body to communicate by using their imagination to create, rehearse and perform music using body percussion. Students will learn to play instruments such as rhythm sticks, bongo drums, the glockenspiel and xylophone, with a focus on the c-major scale, to develop rhythm, tone and form. They will explore elements of the Wurundjeri people’s music and tell stories using the knowledge learned of the elements of music. Students will be provided with opportunities to be creative and use expression, whilst working cooperatively with their peers.
GRADE 2:
In Term 1, the Grade Two students will be exploring the aspects of Music. They will discover their ability to use their voice and body to communicate by using their imagination to create, rehearse and perform music using body percussion. Students will learn to play instruments such as rhythm sticks, bongo drums, the glockenspiel and xylophone, with a focus on the c-major scale, to develop rhythm, tone and form. They will explore elements of the Wurundjeri people’s music and tell stories using the knowledge learned of the elements of music. Students will be provided with opportunities to be creative and use expression, whilst working cooperatively with their peers.
GRADE 3:
In Term 1, Grade Three students will be exploring the Elements of Music; dynamics, rhythm, pitch, timbre, texture and form. Throughout the term, they will deepen their musical vocabulary, experience a variety of musical activities and consolidate key competencies in music. Students will use voice and instruments to sing, play and arrange music from different cultures and times; and improvise and compose music in different forms.
They will given opportunities to rehearse and perform songs and instrumental music they have learn to their peers and discuss the purpose it was created for, including the music of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
GRADE 4:
In Term 1, Grade Three students will be exploring the Elements of Music; dynamics, rhythm, pitch, timbre, texture and form. Throughout the term, they will deepen their musical vocabulary, experience a variety of musical activities and consolidate key competencies in music. Students will use voice and instruments to sing, play and arrange music from different cultures and times; and improvise and compose music in different forms.
They will given opportunities to rehearse and perform songs and instrumental music they have learn to their peers and discuss the purpose it was created for, including the music of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
GRADE 5/6:
In Term 1, the Grade Five and Six students will be exploring the aspects of Music. They will identify and explore the Elements of Music whilst working cooperatively to create musical compositions of their choosing. Students will use rhyme to deepen their understanding of rhythm and pitch. They will explore the importance of music and storytelling in the Indigenous culture as well as their customs. Students will use a range of musical instruments such as bongo drums, maracas as well as the glockenspiel and xylophone, to portray a scene. They will explore how sound effects can be used to create or set a mood.
