What’s Happening in Foundation in Term 1, 2024
In Literacy students will be:
- explicitly taught the correct articulation and pronunciation of letters and sounds.
- engaging in daily activities that involve manipulating sounds and forming words.
- learning to use their letter sound knowledge to blend the sounds together to read words and sentences.
- learning to identify the beginning, middle and end sounds of a word.
- participating in daily formal handwriting sessions learning how to form letters correctly and how to correctly hold a pencil.
- introduced to the conventions of writing; writing from left to right and leaving spaces between words.
In Mathematics students will be:
- focusing on number recognition and counting to 5 and beyond.
- comparing, ordering, counting, making, naming and recording numbers to 5 and beyond.
- recognising simple 2D shapes and how these are represented in our world.
- grouping and arranging objects according to their characteristics to make a data display.
- participating in a daily review of concepts taught to support them with consolidating the concepts taught.
In Inquiry students will be:
- exploring a range of nursery rhymes and fables.
- repeating or reciting nursery rhymes and fables to build their knowledge in rhythm and rhyme.
Wellbeing
We will be using the Respectful Relationships program to focus on emotional literacy.
Students will engage in lessons looking at:
- recognising and identifying their own emotions.
- developing vocabulary to identify emotions.
- recognising other people’s emotions.
There will be a continued focus on our SWPBS Expectations as outlined in our whole school matrix.
