Moving from Primary to Secondary school – Information for Parents

Year 6 – 7 Placement Information Pack (available from Term 2, 2026).

Westmeadows PS will also be hosting a Year 6 – 7 Transition Information session for parents on Wednesday the 22nd of April (Week 1 of Term 2), following on from the Camp Information session.

Steps to enrol your child in a government secondary school

If your child is in Grade 6 in 2026 and attends a Victorian government primary school, you will need to:

  1. Read the Year 6 to 7 Placement Information Pack for Parents and Carers, which will be provided by your child’s primary school by Wednesday 22nd of April 2026.
  2. Use the Find my School website to locate your local secondary school or preferred government school, and read about School zones and Enrolling in school.
  3. Complete the application form and return it to your child’s primary school by Friday the 8th of May 2026.

Note: Your child’s zoned school must be written on your child’s form as the designated neighbourhood school, regardless of whether that is your preference for your child.

Moving to a non-government secondary school or registering for home schooling

If your child is enrolling in a non-government secondary school, contact the secondary school directly to find out about their enrolment process.

Note: The Year 6 – 7 Transition application form must still be completed and returned to your child’s primary school by Friday the 8th of May 2026.
