What’s Happening in Performing Arts in Term 2 2026

FOUNDATION:

In Term 3, Foundation students will be focusing on exploring Drama. Throughout this term, students will develop their understanding of key drama terminology and storytelling. Foundation students will learn about the importance of the drama elements: settings, character, voice and facial expressions and how to use them as actors. They will be given roles from popular children’s stories and will use these drama elements to create and perform theatre-style stories.

GRADE 1 & 2:

In Term 3, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students will be focusing on Dance. They will develop their knowledge and understanding of dance techniques, elements and the history of dance. They will learn about the importance of dances from around the world, as well as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dances. Students will have the opportunities to connect sport to dance. The students will be picking action shots from their favourite sport and turning them into a choregraphed dance routine.

GRADE 3 & 4:

Grade 3 and Grade 4 students will be focusing on Dance for Term 3. Students will focus on further developing their understandings of dance techniques, types of dances and the importance of cultural dances around the world. Each week, students will also be given different themes and will be required to create simple dance movements based on these themes. Development of dance techniques, ideas and teamwork will be a focus throughout this term.

GRADE 5:

Grade 5 students will be focusing on Music for Term 3. This term students will have opportunities to develop understanding in musical notes, how they sound and how to play these notes with certain instruments. Students will be discovering music composers and performers across different cultures and time periods. As part of their learning, students will be required to create an informational PowerPoint that investigates traditional music from another county and present their findings through a slideshow.

GRADE 6:

Year 6:
In Term 3, Grade 6 students will be exploring Drama focusing on storytelling and performance skills. Students will be deepening their knowledge around drama elements, focusing on character, voice, movement and tension. They will be working towards interpreting and performing monologues and developing confidence around performing. Additionally, students will be understanding script work, including script-to-stage performances, and expand their knowledge in key drama terminology.
