What’s happening in Italian in Term 3 2026

FOUNDATION:

In Term 3, our Foundation students will be exploring the topic ‘Gli Animali della Fattoria’ (Farm Animals). Throughout the term, students will learn the names of a variety of farm animals in Italian through stories, songs, games and hands-on activities. Students will enjoy listening to the Italian story ‘La Gallinella Rossa’ (The Little Red Hen), which will introduce and reinforce farm animal vocabulary in a fun and engaging way. They will also participate in lively music and movement activities that help bring the Italian language to life and build their confidence using new Italian words. As they explore this topic, students will continue to strengthen their understanding of Italian colours and numbers by incorporating them into classroom games and activities.

GRADE 1:

In Term 3, our Grade 1 students will explore the topic of ‘Gli Animali’ (Animals). Throughout the term, students will learn the names of a variety of pets, farm animals and zoo animals,while building their confidence in speaking and understanding Italian. Through songs, games, stories, role-plays, craft activities and interactive language games, students will develop their vocabulary and use simple Italian phrases to identify and describe animals. They will practise asking and answering questions such as ‘Che animale è?’ (What animal is it?) and ‘È un…’ (It is a…), they will describe animals using colours and simple adjectives and express their likes and dislikes using ‘Mi piace…’ and ‘Non mi piace…’. To celebrate their learning, students will create a colourful poster featuring their favourite animals and use Italian words and sentences to demonstrate what they have learned throughout the unit.

GRADE 2:

In Term 3, our Grade 2 students will explore the topic of ‘Gli Animali’ (Animals). They will also learn the names of the days of the week and the months of the year. Through a variety of engaging songs, games, role plays and interactive activities, students will build their confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing in Italian. As a culminating task, students will create a colourful poster titled ‘La Mia Giornata’ (My Day), using Italian words and phrases to describe their daily routine and showcase what they have learned.

GRADE 4:

In Term 3, our Grade 4 students will be exploring the topic ‘Che ora è?’ (What time is it?). Throughout the term, students will learn how to tell the time in Italian and talk about the activities they do throughout the day using simple Italian sentences. They will also learn the names of the days of the week and the months of the year. Through a variety of engaging songs, games, role plays and interactive activities, students will build their confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing in Italian. Throughout the term, students will learn the Italian names for a variety of sports and games while building their confidence in speaking and listening. They will participate in engaging conversations, sharing which sports they enjoy playing and watching using the Italian vocabulary and phrases they have learned. As part of a collaborative project, students will watch an episode of Coffee Break – Italian To Go and use it as inspiration to create their own short video episode. Working in groups, they will showcase their language skills by talking about their favourite sports and games in Italian.
