R U OK Day – Thursday September 9th 2021
We’re never too young to learn that asking, “Are you OK?” can make a big difference.
Today is R U OK Day and this day has been created to inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them and start a conversation with those in their world who may be struggling with life.
You don’t need to be an expert to reach out – just a good friend and a great listener.
Use these four steps and have a conversation that could change a life:
1. Ask R U OK?
2. Listen
3. Encourage action
4. Check in
The message this year is “Are they REALLY okay?” We have all been through tough times in the past 18 months. Now, more than ever we need to look out for each other and ask the question ‘R U OK?’
By starting a conversation you could help that family member or friend open up.
If they say they are not okay, you can follow the steps above to show them how supported they are and work together to find strategies to help them.
If they say that they are okay, that is A-OK too! At least that person will know you’re someone who cares enough to ask!
