Grade 3/4 Term 1, 2020 Overview
The Grade 3/4’s have had a tremendous start to 2020. To enable students to feel welcomed and appreciated, we started our year with ‘getting to know you’ activities which were thoroughly enjoyed by all participants. A favourite for many of the students was the coopertaive games organised by teachers. Students were required to work in teams to complete a challenge. Following this, we started our learning across all curriculum areas where children have been immersed in engaging and meaningful tasks.
The Grade 3 students were provided with their own netbook which was a clear highlight to the start off their year. Teachers and students created netbook expectations to ensure that devices are used appropriately. Students have enjoyed this new responsibility and have taken it in their stride.
It was not long before the 3/4 cohort were provided with the opportunity to be nominated for Class Captains and Junior School Council representatives. Students were given time to prepare a speech as to why they were a suitable candidate for the preferred position. After many impressive speeches, each class voted and the representatives from each class were announced at the school assembly. Students who have been nominated have accepted their new responsibility with great pride and have already commenced their roles such as conducting class meetings and meeting with school leadership to discuss possible improvements for Westmeadows Primary School.
During Week 7, students were involved in the annual House Cross Country sporting event that took place on Ardlie Oval. Students’ spirits were high as they took on the challenge. Many of the students were very successful in reaching District Cross Country event.
Week 7 also saw the due date of our ‘All About Me’ PowerPoint presentation. Students have been working on this PowerPoint since the beginning of the term as part of their homework. The aim of the project was to allow students to showcase themselves and get to know their peers in their class. Teachers are looking forward to seeing all the hard work put into these presentations.
Term 1 has been a great ride so far. It won’t be long before an as equally exciting Term 2 rolls around where we will see more exciting events and children achieving and progressing through their learning goals.
