What’s Happening in Performing Arts in Term 1 2025
FOUNDATION:
In Term 1, the Foundation students will be discovering the key elements of Drama. They will participate in a range of dramatic role plays, looking at a variety of different characters and situations that they are familiar with. Students will learn about using voice, facial expressions, movement and space and the impact this has on an audience. They will use their imaginations to create improvisation plays that they will rehearse and present to their peers. Students will explore feelings through stories and puppetry and translate this to their own dramatic play.
GRADE 1:
In Term 1, The Grade One students will be exploring the Elements of Drama. They will focus on identifying the features of drama and role play and explore the role that dramatic action and improvisation has on both the audience and actors. This will be done using narrative structures and texts that they are familiar with. Students will then be provided with opportunities to explore drama using their voice and movement along with time to rehearse and present plays. They will study different plays and learn to identify why people make and perform drama.
GRADE 2:
In Term 1, The Grade Two students will be exploring the Elements of Drama. GRADE 3/4:
In Term 1, the Grade Three and Four students will define Drama and its elements. They will have opportunities to complete a variety of character studies which will influence the creation of their own character. From this character, they will make a puppet and use this to explore voice, movement and language in drama to sustain roles and create dramatic action. Students will be using narrative structures to help shape and perform drama. They will have opportunities to respond to drama, sharing things they enjoyed/did not enjoy and provide supporting reasons.
GRADE 5/6:
In Term 1, the Grade Five and Six students will explore the different elements of Music by continuing to listen, improvise, compose, arrange and perform music both independently and collaboratively with their peers. They will have opportunities to complete various activities using musical instruments whilst engaging in more complex aspects of, pitch, rhythm, tempo, texture, dynamics and expression, form and structure. Students continue to learn about music from a range of cultures, times and locations, both in their community and beyond.
