What’s happening in Italian in Term 1 2025
FOUNDATION:
Ciao e Benvenuti! (Hello and Welcome!) to learning Italiano at Westmeadows Primary School! In Term 1, Foundation students will be introduced to the Italian language and culture by participating in weekly Italian classes. Through stories, games and songs students will be learning how to say and respond to simple greetings and how to introduce themselves in Italian. Students will also be learning the numbers 1-10 and how to say the colours in Italian. Looking forward to a ‘fantastico’ Term 1 with the Foundation students!
GRADE 1:
Ciao e Bentornati! (Hello and welcome back!) to Italiano classes! In Term 1, Grade 1 students will commence the term by creating a poster, ‘Tutto su di me’ (All About Me) using words, familiar phrases, and modelled language. They will share this with a partner and practise reading it aloud. Students will then learn the Italian alphabet and focus on developing their oral language skills through exploring and listening to the sounds and patterns of the language. Students will be encouraged to participate in songs, chants and play games to consolidate their understanding of how letters are pronounced. Looking forward to a fun Term One!
GRADE 2:

GRADE 6:
Ciao e bentornati (Hello and welcome back) to Italiano classes! In Term 1, Grade 6 students will commence the term by creating a PowerPoint ‘Tutto su di me’ (All About Me) using familiar phrases and modelled language. They will be given the opportunity to share these with the class. The topics that students will focus on for the remainder of the term will be Greetings, Introducing Ourselves and Describing Others. Students will participate in various activities where they will develop strategies to comprehend and produce Italian. They will listen to, read and view sentences and paragraphs, identifying familiar words and phrases, and predicting the meaning of unknown words and expressions.
