What’s happening in Italian in Term 3 2024
FOUNDATION:
In Term 3, Foundation Students will be learning about ‘Gli Animali dellla fattoria’ (Farm Animals). They will listen to a story in Italian, ‘La Gallinella Rossa” (The Little Red Hen) where they will learn the names of farm animals in Italian. Students will learn an Italian dance ‘Il Ballo del Qua Qua’ (The Chicken Dance) and an Italian song (‘C’e` la luna piena), which will further consolidate their learning of farm animals. Through this topic they will continue to build on their knowledge of colours and numbers in Italian. Looking forward to a fun term in Italian class! Looking forward to a fantastico Term 3!
GRADE 1:
In Term 3, the focus for the Grade 1 students will be ‘Gli Animali’ (Animals). Throughout the term students will explore ‘Animali Domestici’ (Pets), ‘Animali della fattoria’ (Farm Animals) and ‘Animali dallo zoo’ (Zoo Animals). Students will learn the names of animals and with support and using modelled language, they will describe the animals using modelled language, Students will participate in a variety of tasks such as listening to stories in Italian, playing games and singing songs to consolidate their learning. Students will then choose between pets, farm animals and zoo animals and they will make a poster, drawing ana labelling their favourite animals in their environment. GRADE 2:

In Term 3, the topic for the Grade 3 students will be ‘Giochiamo Insieme’ (Let’s play together). In this unit, students will learn and use Italian to play a range of games. They will learn the language needed to invite someone to play a game with them, to take turns, to ask and answer questions and they will apply their knowledge of numbers whilst playing the games. Students will be working towards being able to use Italian to interact with each other in a game, engage with different Italian texts and recognise that Italian has its own rules for pronunciation and grammar. GRADE 4:
In Term 3, the topic for the Grade 4 students will be ‘Giochiamo Insieme’ (Let’s play together). In this unit, students will learn and use Italian to play a range of games. GRADE 5/6:
In Term 3, the focus for the Grade 5/6 students will be ‘Gli Sport e Le Olimpiadi’ (Sports and The Olympics). Students will learn the names of many sports and games. They will participate in various speaking tasks where they will share information including what games/sports they like to play and watch. Students will participate in a group task where they will watch an episode of ‘Coffee Break – Italian to Go’ Students will then be required to make their own episode, using vocabulary and phrases learnt in class about what games and sports they like to play and watch.
